A few weeks ago, I was talking with my friend and I mentioned how I am currently unemployed and looking for work. He said, "You're not unemployed. You're a blogger." He was of course talking about this blog which is really just a way to bring attention to my website and talk about what I'm doing each week. I don't make any money from it and I don't really intend to. Part of it's purpose is to make sure I keep doing things to get my business going so that I have something to write about each week.
But what he said made me think. Someone else I know has recently started a travel blog and I had been talking to him about it only a few days before my conversation with my friend. He was so excited and passionate about what he was writing and I remembered how excited and passionate I could get about writing. I wanted to do it again.
Shortly after these conversations, I came across a business offering a free five-day email course on how to start a money-making blog. The idea, of course, is that you join the free course and then want to pay for their other courses. I thought, what the heck. If I don't like the free course, I haven't done anything irreversible. I'll give it a shot.
Day 1 was about picking your niche. I have to say, once I did that, there was no going back.
I realized that everything I was interested in was somehow connected to my son. I focused on the three areas that had the most amount of opportunity to write about (Travel, Day Trips, Staying Active) and started to build my blog.
After much more than just five days, I launched my second blog: Showers and Stars Adventures. The name is supposed to be a play on the phrase rain or shine. It took a lot of work and a bit more money than I had anticipated spending (domains, logos, emails, it all adds up). This blog doesn't make me money yet, but I hope that one day it will.
